The Vendée Globe is a not-to-be-missed event in the Vendée. This single-handed race is world-famous among sailing enthusiasts, as it represents an admirable challenge for these sailors. These sailors - on monohull yachts - will have to circumnavigate the globe non-stop and without assistance, rounding the three capes (Good Hope, Leeuwin and Horn).
You'll need to book your accommodation now to attend the Vendée Globe in Les Sables d'Olonne as places are reserved months in advance. The campsite La Pomme de Pin is located in Jard sur Mer, just 20 minutes from the start of the race. So it's an ideal place to be.

This year, the start will be on Sunday 6 November 2016. From the pontoons in Port Olona - where the yachts are parked - the skippers will sail along the channel and reach the start line towards Cayola. The whistle for the 8th edition will be blown at 13:02, after which they will sail across the oceans to return several months later.
If you book your accommodation a few days before the start of the race, you can also take advantage of the Vendée Globe Village at Port Olona in Les Sables d'Olonne.. It's a real meeting place. You'll be able to get up close to the boats that will be on the water and perhaps meet the skippers or members of their teams.

In order to win this new edition, they will have to finish first of course, and try to beat François Gabart's record of 78 days 02 hours 16 minutes and 40 seconds. Their arrival will therefore logically be in January 2017.
What an insane ordeal these competitors will have to go through with the Vendée Globe! Come and support them by choosing accommodation at the Pomme de Pin campsite near Les Sables d'Olonne.
